Netbook Reflection

WALT record what learning on our netbooks this year has been like, what we have enjoyed, what has been difficult, what has been interesting

At the start of the year Room 6 was very lucky to get black, shiny, brand new  netbooks! I felt excited because I couldn't wait until I got to use my netbook. We counted down from three. When we finished counting we all turned them on.When we turned it on the Manaiakalani sign came up then  it went black.

I have really liked how we can just go on docs and make presentations. I think it is awesome that you can write on a key board instead of getting a book and writing a with your hands. I like how you can comment on other people’s blog.

It has been really interesting having a netbook. The docs are really interesting because you can make a presentation and even a movie. You can share your work with your teacher. You can email other people with you gmail.

Some small problems have been the battery time is limited. Another

problem is the internet always turns off and the mouse sometimes  freezes.

Overall I have liked how netbooks have changed how we learn in school.

Hydro power dyagram

WALT write an explanation of how a Hydro-power station works

Firstly you build a dam to block the river.Water then builds up behind the
dam. This is called the reservoir.Water then goes through the intake. Then water rushes down the penstock. Then the water pushes the turbine. The power goes in the generator and it all goes into the
power lines. Then the power goes through the power lines and then into the buildings.

Hydropower is a wonderful way of making power, it just uses water and it is renewable!

Renewable (will not run out) energy source:Water,Solar,Wind, biomass, geothermal.

Non-renewable (will run out) energy source:Oil,Natural gas,Coal

This is how Water is used to generate (make) power:

Fun Fractions

In Maths this term we have been learning about FRACTIONS

I can find fractions of whole numbers like:

½ of 12 =6                       ⅓ of 9=3                1/10 of 20=2

⅔ of 12= 8                       ⅘ of 10=  8

I can recognise when a  fraction is greater than 1:

½ + ½ + ½ = 1 1/2

⅓ + ⅓ + ⅓ + ⅓ =1 1/3

7/4 =1 3/4
